France 24 television has reported that Germany and France have decided to cancel their joint next-generation fighter jet project, valued at €100 billion.

Sources said the project was considered Europe’s largest defence initiative.

The decision was made following a meeting between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron. During the meeting, both sides discussed the challenges facing the project and concluded that it was not possible to resolve the months-long disagreements between the industrial partners involved.
