The Disaster Management General Authority said in a statement that its Director General, Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, met with Mia Park, Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and her delegation. During the meeting, the two sides emphasized expanding preventive and infrastructure-based projects aimed at reducing the impact of natural disasters, as well as strengthening coordination between their organizations.
According to the statement, the head of the Authority said that although food and non-food assistance are important, sustainable results can only be achieved by prioritizing preventive and infrastructure projects. He added that areas at high risk of natural disasters have already been surveyed by the authority, and that related projects should be implemented in coordination with the Authority.
Meanwhile, Mia Park, Chief of the IOM, said that 90 percent of the 73 projects implemented by the organization in Afghanistan have been carried out in line with the plans of the Disaster Management Authority. She assured that future projects would also be designed and implemented according to the authority’s priorities and strategy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and emphasized the implementation of volunteer program for natural disaster management.
