Tasnim News Agency reported that Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the Strait of Hormuz has been “completely closed” and rejected the U.S. claim that the strait remains open.
Rezaei said Iran would declare a restricted zone around the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf and would place on its sanctions list any vessels that violate regulations set by Iran.
He claimed that only around seven or eight food-carrying vessels are currently passing through the route.
The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also claimed that 48 hours earlier, Iran had, for the first time, tested a specialized “anti-ship” missile near a U.S. warship, which, according to him, forced the American vessel to leave the area.
