Islamic Uniforms in Schools; A Return to Religious and National Culture

With the beginning of the 1404 academic year and the change in school uniforms, some individuals who have previously opposed the values and manifestations of Islamic culture stirred up controversy on social media. The aim was to exploit the ignorance of some compatriots to create a negative perception of the turban and Islamic symbols. Unfortunately, some citizens, whether intentionally or unintentionally, fell into the trap of this propaganda and deemed the new uniform unacceptable.

In this regard, several questions can be raised: First, those who oppose this decision should be asked: What culture was the uniform that was previously common in schools based on, and where does its origin lie? Is the turban and lungi not part of Islamic culture, and has it not been passed down to us by the great religious individuals?

Second, if wearing the previous uniform was mandatory, why wasn’t there any opposition at that time? Now that the new attire aligns with our religious and cultural values, what’s wrong with making it official and mandatory?

Third, the turban and lungi are traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), while trousers and jackets are products of Western civilization. This attire was first made mandatory as the official uniform for students in Britain and then spread to other countries.

In such times when foreign cultures have entered Islamic societies through various means, it is necessary for Muslims to cling to their religious and cultural values more than ever and keep them alive in all aspects of life.

If today the Islamic uniform seems unfamiliar or unusual to some, it should be understood that this is the result of years of intellectual efforts by enemies to distance us from our Islamic identity. Now is the time to proudly introduce our culture to the world and instill love and belief in Islamic values in the hearts of the new generation.

Let’s, with strong determination and will, introduce our youth to the authentic Islamic culture and teach them that this culture is not only worthy of preservation and respect but should also be recognized as a symbol of our identity and dignity on a global scale.

Without a doubt, every student who enters school wearing an Islamic uniform carries a clear message of loyalty to Islamic culture and independence from foreign cultures.

Now is the time to loudly and proudly proclaim our Islamic culture and, by wearing Islamic attire, show that we are loyal children of this identity and culture.
