The New York Times reported that US Vice President JD Vance has held direct talks with senior military commanders about the war with Iran and has raised concerns with President Donald Trump over a prolonged conflict, declining weapons stockpiles and the continuation of military operations.
According to the report, Vance asked military commanders to provide a candid assessment of the war without political considerations. The discussions covered US military casualties, Iran’s ability to sustain the conflict, Tehran’s possible actions in the Strait of Hormuz and the condition of US weapons stockpiles.
US military officials have also warned that stocks of missiles used by the Patriot air defense system are declining significantly. They said supplies of other munitions, particularly ATACMS missiles, have also fallen to low levels.
