Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, Acting Minister of Public Health, met with Edwin Ceniza Salvador, WHO Representative in Afghanistan; Mandeep Ratte, Head of WHO’s Polio Team in Afghanistan; and other officials from the health sector to discuss the enhancement of Afghanistan’s healthcare system.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Health stated that the meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the services currently being provided by the World Health Organization in Afghanistan, ways to address existing health sector challenges, strengthening the healthcare system, improving the capacity of health workers, efforts to eradicate polio, the provision of equipment for a cancer treatment hospital, WHO’s support for hospitals treating infectious diseases, evaluating and selecting implementing institutions based on service quality, and attracting international assistance for the health sector.

Mawlawi Jalali emphasized the need for joint efforts with international partners to improve healthcare services in response to public needs. He stressed the importance of standardized care for patients and resolving current issues as part of broader efforts to develop and strengthen the healthcare system.

Meanwhile, WHO officials, including heads of polio team, reaffirmed their continued cooperation and commitment to supporting the country’s health sector, mobilizing assistance, and contributing in various areas of partnership.
