The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs announced that Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran during his visit to Iran.
According to the office, Mullah Baradar extended his condolences to the Iranian government and people over the death of the country’s former religious leader. During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding political, economic, and other areas of bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran.
Mullah Baradar called Afghanistan and Iran neighboring countries with shared interests and longstanding historical ties, adding that the two countries have broad opportunities to expand cooperation.
He also condemned the recent military attacks against Iran, describing them as a violation of international principles.
For his part, President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the importance of further strengthening relations between Kabul and Tehran. He said the existing capacities and opportunities should be used to advance the shared interests of both countries and their peoples.
