U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the temporary ceasefire with Iran is over, calling any further talks with Tehran a waste of time.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey on Wednesday, Trump said, “I think the ceasefire is over.” He added that he no longer wants to engage with Iranian officials and sees no benefit in continuing discussions with them.
Trump said he will consult with his advisers, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, but stressed that the decision on whether to return to the negotiating table now lies with Iran.
His remarks come as recent exchanges of strikes between U.S. and Iranian forces have significantly escalated tensions between the two countries, dealing a major setback to mediation efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
