Anadolu Agency, citing Gaza’s Government Media Office, reported that 263 journalists and media workers have been killed in Israeli regime attacks on Gaza since October 2023. Another 50 journalists have been detained in Israeli regime prisons, 23 of whom remain in detention.
Ismail al Thawabta, head of Gaza’s Government Media Office, told Anadolu Agency that three journalists are still missing. He said the Israeli regime’s attacks have also damaged or destroyed 16 television networks, 11 radio stations, 12 newspapers and magazines, 23 digital media outlets, and 27 printing presses.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said 27 of the journalists killed were women and nearly 500 journalists have been injured. According to the syndicate, more than one fifth of Gaza’s approximately 1,200 journalists have been killed, while between 60 and 75 percent of surviving journalists have been displaced from their homes.
The report said the widespread destruction of media offices and equipment has forced Palestinian journalists to continue working from tents, displacement camps and hospitals, despite shortages of electricity, internet access, cameras and other essential equipment.
