Al Jazeera has reported that at least 9 people were killed and 22 others injured in an explosion in Syria’s capital, Damascus.
According to the report, the explosion occurred at a café in the Al-Hijaz area of Damascus, near the Palace of Justice. The injured were transferred to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Citing Syrian health and security officials, Al Jazeera said preliminary information indicates that the blast was caused by explosive devices planted inside the café. Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident comes as Syria continues to face ongoing security challenges and sporadic outbreaks of violence.
