Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as baseless claims by Pakistan’s foreign minister that Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi contacted him six times in a single day.

According to the ministry press release, the Director of Public Relations stated that the initial phone call between the two sides was held in a spirit of mutual understanding. During that conversation, Ishaq Dar acknowledged he lacked full knowledge of the situation and pledged to follow up once he was fully briefed.

The statement noted that a second conversation was subsequently held, and the following day Dar sought to initiate another call, but the contact did not go through for various reasons.

Spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal expressed hope that senior officials of Pakistan’s military regime would ensure an accurate reflection of facts during their discussions.
