Dr. Wahdat Alokozai, Director of Curative Medicine at the Ministry of Public Health, stated during a public awareness event on blood donation that Afghanistan is now close to achieving self-sufficiency in blood storage.

He added that over the past year, the ministry collected 227,000 units of blood across the country, of which 210,000 units were distributed to patients.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Health also said that 85 percent of the blood currently collected nationwide comes from voluntary donors.

According to the officials, during the solar year 1404, the Central Blood Bank and provincial blood banks also determined the blood groups of 699,304 individuals.
