The Liberal Party of Canada elected Mark Carney as the country’s new prime minister on Sunday, securing a decisive majority of votes. Carney, 59, previously served as the governor of the Bank of Canada and will succeed Justin Trudeau in leading the country.
Following his victory, Carney strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, stating: “The United States seeks to control our resources, our water, our land, and our country. Trump is targeting Canadian families, workers, and businesses. We will not allow him to succeed.”
Notably, since returning to office, President Trump has repeatedly claimed that Canada should be merged with the United States.
