Anadolu Agency has reported that US Vice President JD Vance said Washington and Tehran have made progress towards reaching an agreement through negotiations to end the ongoing conflict, adding that he and President Donald Trump are optimistic about the possibility of a deal.
According to the report, Vance said he had discussed Iran with President Trump and that both viewed the prospects of reaching an agreement through negotiations positively. He added that the negotiation process was still underway and that both sides had begun efforts to make progress.
He stressed that the United States had not set a final deadline for resuming attacks against Iran but wanted to ensure that Iran does not rebuild its nuclear programme. According to Vance, any potential agreement must include a firm and verifiable commitment from Iran on this issue.
Earlier, Trump had also said that Iran wanted to reach an agreement to end the war and that there was a possibility of both sides reaching a deal. Tensions in the Middle East have continued since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28.
