China’s Defense Minister, Admiral Dong, said in recent remarks that Iran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz and that the key maritime route remains open to Chinese vessels.
He added that China remains committed to global peace and is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East.
Dong further stated that Chinese ships continue to operate in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
“We have commercial and energy agreements with Iran. We respect them and expect others to refrain from interfering in our affairs,” he said.
The statement comes following recent U.S. warnings over a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with Washington saying it would intercept vessels paying transit fees to Iran.
