Reuters reported that the death toll from two back to back powerful earthquakes that struck western Venezuela has risen to 2,954, while thousands of others have been injured or displaced.
According to Reuters, citing Venezuelan authorities, more than 12,000 people have been injured, while around 16,000 others have been forced to leave their homes.
The earthquakes struck on June 24 in western Venezuela, approximately 160 kilometers from the capital, Caracas. The first quake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, followed about one minute later by a second tremor of 7.5 magnitude.
The tremors caused dozens of buildings to collapse, leaving many people trapped under rubble. Roads, bridges, and other key infrastructure also suffered significant damage. Rescue operations are ongoing as teams continue efforts to locate missing persons and clear affected areas.
