Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, on Monday inaugurated the construction of the Yatim Taq cement production plant in Jowzjan province.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs stated that Mr. Baradar, during the inauguration ceremony, emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic industry and supporting local products for the country’s economic growth, stressing the urgent need to address this issue.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs added that the Afghan government’s entire focus is on reinforcing domestic industry and is working to facilitate the internal processing of raw materials instead of exporting them.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, continuing his remarks, called on the international community to enhance engagement with Afghanistan within the framework of the formal economy and to take advantage of the country’s unprecedented security, political stability, and potential capacity.

He stated that tightening the global and regional political and economic environment, implementing exclusionary policies at the international level, and prolonging sanctions cannot resolve the challenges of global politics and economics; rather, such policies create threats and reduce regional and international cooperation.

It is worth noting that a Turkish 77 company is investing $160 million in the construction of the Yatim Taq cement plant, which will produce 3,000 tons of cement daily and create direct and indirect employment opportunities for 5,000 people.

The project is expected to be completed within two years.
