China’s state media report that at least eight people have been killed and 34 remain missing after a massive landslide struck Pengshui County in Chongqing Municipality, southwestern China.
The landslide buried more than 10 residential buildings under mud and debris, prompting authorities to evacuate more than 1,100 residents from the affected area.
Rescue teams continue to search for the missing. Officials said hundreds of rescue personnel, along with heavy machinery and drones, have been deployed to support the ongoing operation.
Chinese authorities have also launched an investigation to determine the cause of the landslide.
