Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, stated that successful operations by Afghan security forces against ISIS-K in Afghanistan forced many of its leaders to flee across the Durand Line into Pakistan.
Khalilzad warned that the emerging safe havens of ISIS-K in Pakistan represent a potential regional and global threat.
He also urged Washington to put pressure on Islamabad to take decisive action against ISIS-K within its territory.
In a tweet addressing the issue, Khalilzad tagged U.S. President Donald Trump, CIA Director Ratcliffe, and the Secretaries of Defense and State.
It’s worth noting that earlier, Afghanistan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also claimed that ISIS-K has been eliminated in Afghanistan and is currently being trained in camps in Mastung, Balochistan, with the support of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, where they plan attacks abroad.
