A gold mine collapse in Abu Jubeiha, South Kordofan State of Sudan, has resulted in the deaths of six miners, injuries to 12 others, and dozens more trapped under the rubble.

The Sudan Doctors Network has expressed deep concern over the incident and has called on the relevant authorities to establish and enforce safety regulations for mining operations.

Small-scale mining is a source of income for around two million people across Sudan, but it is largely carried out under harsh and dangerous conditions.
