The Herat Provincial Office has announced that, after nearly two years of specialized studies and technical assessments, the Herat City Master Plan has been completed and approved by the Prime Minister of the Afghan government.

The master plan was prepared through cooperation between the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing and the Herat Municipality, and it will determine the direction of Herat’s growth and development in the coming years.

According to the plan, a major project has been envisaged for the expansion of the new city of Herat on approximately 50,000 jeribs of land.

The new master plan for Herat includes the standardization of urban roads and transportation networks, expansion of industrial zones, construction of freight terminals and logistics centers, reduction of traffic congestion, development of green spaces and parks, and strengthening of water supply and sewage networks.

In addition, the preservation of Herat’s historical and cultural areas, the creation of new employment opportunities, the attraction of domestic and foreign investment, and the prevention of non-standard construction activities have been identified as key objectives of this comprehensive plan.
