The Ministry of Information and Culture has announced that Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayyibi, the Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture, has visited the historic cemetery of martyrs of the Second Anglo-Afghan War in Kandahar and assured that necessary measures will be taken to restore it.

According to a ministry statement, during his visit to the cemetery in the Anzargi area of Takhta Pul district, he assessed its overall condition and stressed the need for its preservation and maintenance.

The statement noted that the cemetery is part of Afghanistan’s historical heritage and a symbol of the Afghan people’s sacrifices in defending their independence and freedom. However, before the re-establishment of the Afghan government, some individuals carried out illegal excavations at the site under the pretext of searching for hidden treasures, thereby damaging its historical significance.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayyibi said that necessary measures would be taken to restore the cemetery in order to honour the martyrs and safeguard the country’s historical heritage.
