On Tuesday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that its diplomatic mission in Kabul has been upgraded to an embassy.

In its statement, the ministry stated that the initiative is aimed at strengthening and expanding ties between New Delhi and Kabul.

The ministry added that Indian Embassy in Kabul will expand its activities across various sectors to strengthen cooperation with the Afghan people.

The decision comes just days after India’s Minister of Exterior informed his Afghan counterpart, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, that New Delhi would soon upgrade its political mission in Kabul to an embassy.
