The Afghanistan Academy of Sciences says an international conference on the scholarly legacy of Imam al-Marghinani in contemporary Islamic studies has opened in Kabul hosted by the academy.
In a message to the conference, Afghanistan’s Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund said Transoxiana and Balkh have historically been among the major centers of Islamic scholarship, producing prominent scholars and fostering a rich intellectual legacy in the Quran, Hadith, theology, jurisprudence and other Islamic sciences.
He said Afghanistan and Uzbekistan continue to share historical and economic ties rooted in a common faith, the same school of jurisprudence, and shared spiritual and Sufi traditions.
The message expressed hope that these shared ties would once again be strengthened, as in the past, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
