U.S. Secretary of Defense Pat Hegseth has stated that Ukraine’s return to its pre-2014 borders is an “unrealistic goal,” and that NATO membership for the country is not a solution to end the war.
Speaking at a NATO meeting in Brussels, Hegseth emphasized that reclaiming territories lost by Ukraine would only prolong the conflict and increase suffering.
He urged NATO allies to focus more on the security of Europe, noting that the U.S. has multiple priorities, including the security of its own borders and threats posed by China.
