The Afghan Ministry of Public Works has signed contracts for the detailed design of the Herat-Kandahar railway, valued at 264 million afghanis.

According to ministry spokesperson Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the agreements were signed between Acting Minister Mullah Mohammad Isa Thani and representatives of five private companies.

The project, covering a 737.5-kilometer railway line, will be executed in five phases and is scheduled for completion within eight months.
