A credible source told BBC Pashto that Afghan Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid has persuaded the Russian side to provide the Afghan government with modern air defense equipment.

The source added that an agreement has been signed between the two sides, covering not only air defense systems but also the provision of ground military equipment.

According to the information, the Russian side will also provide the Islamic Army forces with the necessary technical training under the terms of the agreement.

BBC Pashto further reported that the agreement was signed in the presence of Afghan Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid and Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.
