Shah Mahmood Miakhel, former Minister of Defense under the fallen republic, says the armed opposition to the interim government has effectively vanished, with no fighters on the ground and no public support to sustain an insurgency.

In a recently published article, Miakhel stated: “The armed opposition against the Taliban is virtually nonexistent. There are no willing fighters, no logistical networks, no public support, and no backing.”

Pointing to the so-called Resistance Front and other self-proclaimed armed factions, he said their leadership has lost credibility and lacks a consistent position.

He added: “A handful of armed groups, most of which operate primarily on Facebook are divided along three separate lines, and their leadership no longer has public trust.”

Miakhel further noted that political opponents of the interim government lack a credible platform for their activities, remain fragmented, and have thus far failed to form a unified front.
