Once the closure is completed, consular services for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be provided through the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and other U.S. diplomatic missions. U.S. officials said the move will not affect Washington’s core interests, services for U.S. citizens, or the continuation of its programs in Pakistan.

The announcement comes amid reported concerns over security threats and political instability in Pakistan. In recent months, incidents of violence have increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh, according to reports.

Separately, some media outlets have reported that France has also decided to close its consulate in Karachi. However, French authorities have not issued an official statement confirming or providing further details about the reported decision.
