The New York Times has reported that U.S. President Donald Trump met with senior advisers and cabinet officials to discuss whether to expand military strikes against Iran.

The meeting followed the collapse of a fragile agreement intended to facilitate nuclear disarmament talks between Tehran and Washington.

According to the report, Trump faces a pivotal decision over his administration’s approach toward Iran. The White House has not officially announced whether a final decision has been made on additional measures against Tehran.

Trump said the U.S. military is fully prepared to carry out more extensive strikes if he gives the order, while adding that the door to diplomacy remains open as a path to resolving the crisis.
