Reuters reported that US President Donald Trump said he would keep higher tariffs on imports from eight European countries until the United States is allowed to acquire Greenland.

According to the report, beginning February 1 this year, the Trump administration plans to impose an additional 10 percent tariff on imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, and the United Kingdom.

Trump has called Greenland critical to US national security and has not ruled out military action.

Meanwhile, Danish officials and Greenland’s leadership have firmly stated that the island is not for sale, while several European countries have signaled their military support for Greenland.
