The Washington Post reported that Gregory Meeks, the senior Democratic member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, has objected to a proposed Trump administration deal to sell Israel 40,000 bombs worth approximately $2.8 billion.
According to the report, each bomb weighs about 2,000 pounds, or roughly 907 kilograms.
Meeks said he is concerned about how the weapons could be used, particularly in densely populated areas.
He also said the weapons must be used in accordance with U.S. and international law.
Meeks described 2,000 pound bombs as among the most destructive weapons in the U.S. arsenal.
