According to reports, A United Nations aircraft was targeted in South Sudan, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 soldiers, including a general.

Reports suggest that the aircraft was evacuating besieged soldiers from Nasir City in South Sudan.

Michael Makuei Lueth, South Sudan’s Minister of Information, confirmed that the exact number of soldiers killed has not been verified, and that the helicopter crew was also killed in the attack.

UN Special Representative Nicholas Haysom condemned the attack as barbaric, stating it could be considered a war crime under international law. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and called for an impartial investigation.
