Tom Fletcher, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has said that more than 50,000 people are missing following two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela.
He added that rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate possible survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
Fletcher also stated that the worst destruction caused by the earthquakes occurred in the La Guaira area of Caracas.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government has so far confirmed nearly 4,000 casualties resulting from the earthquakes.
