Wahidullah Mohammadi, spokesperson for the 201 Khalid bin Walid Army Corps, said that recent heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding in Parun, the capital of Nuristan Province, causing significant human casualties and property damage.
He stated that the corps’ forces, in coordination with other security agencies, are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations.
According to him, on the instructions of the corps’ leadership, additional reinforcements have been deployed to the eastern zone, and food supplies have been prepared for the flood victims. These supplies will be distributed to affected families as soon as they arrive in the area.
Meanwhile, Faridon Samim, spokesperson for the Governor of Nuristan, said that according to the latest information from the Parun floods, 105 people remain missing, 11 bodies have been recovered, and the floods have caused an estimated $35 million in financial losses.
The reported casualty and damage figures remain preliminary and may change as rescue efforts and damage assessments continue.
