The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out a new wave of airstrikes against Iran on July 14.
According to CENTCOM, the operation began at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time and targeted dozens of Iranian military sites near the Strait of Hormuz and along Iran’s southern coastline.
CENTCOM said fighter jets, drones, and naval forces took part in the seven-hour operation, striking Iranian missile and drone bases, naval assets, and coastal defense systems.
The command said the strikes were intended to weaken Iran’s capabilities that, according to the United States, threaten commercial shipping and civilian maritime crews.
The United States also announced the reimposition of maritime restrictions on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports. The measures took effect at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
CENTCOM added that US forces remain fully prepared to carry out additional operations if ordered by the president.
