Local sources report that a Pakistani military transport vehicle was hit by an explosion on a public road in the Barmakhel area of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sources close to the Pakistani military have confirmed that three soldiers were killed in the blast, while two others sustained injuries.
They added that clashes erupted between attackers and Pakistani forces in the area shortly after the explosion.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Pakistani Taliban maintain a strong presence in the area and have previously claimed responsibility for similar incidents.
In recent weeks, there has been a notable increase in bombings and armed attacks targeting Pakistani military personnel throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
