The local head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Islamabad, Maher Benji, has stated that Pakistan’s rising debt poses a serious challenge to the country’s economy.

According to Benji, Pakistan lacks the capacity to generate revenue and effectively collect taxes.
Speaking at a meeting yesterday, he noted that many official institutions do not contribute to the national treasury, which is the primary reason for the financial burden on the financial sector.

He further stated that while the Pakistani government imposd heavy taxes pressur on the civilian sector, the country still faces severe economic difficulties, with no apparent solution in sight.
