Amid growing tensions with China, Japanese officials have urged the United States to provide clear support on the Taiwan issue.

Reports note that Japan’s Prime Minister has warned that the country would respond militarily if China were to attack Taiwan.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the remarks, urging Japan to avoid interfering in its internal affairs.

China regards Taiwan as an inseparable part of its territory.

Just days earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had urged Japan to refrain from actions that might escalate tensions with China.
