Local officials in Panjshir announced today the sale of newly extracted emeralds from the province’s mines.
Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor, said that 3,095 carats of emeralds were sold to domestic traders through a public auction for 2.119 million Afghanis, in the presence of the Mines Monitoring Committee, local officials, and traders.
He added that thousands of carats of emeralds have previously been sold to domestic traders through similar auction processes.
