As tensions continue to escalate in the region—particularly following the recent Iran–Israel conflict—available information suggests that Israel has been considering a new approach for its military and intelligence operations. Although the plan to attack Iran may have been under development for several months, with ongoing efforts to gather intelligence, it is now reported that Mossad agents have secretly established contact with exiled Afghan opposition groups, alongside non-Iranian nationals and some Iranians themselves, to collect intelligence on Iran. These opposition groups, which fled Afghanistan following the fall of the republican regime in Kabul, have now become a key tool for anti-Iran factions to gather vital information about Iran.
Reliable sources have informed the the Voice of Hindukush that Mossad representatives have held secret meetings with the leadership and intelligence officials of these groups in France and Turkey. Mossad has asked them to gather up-to-date information—via infiltration—on the location, possible movements, and security status of key individuals within Iran, and to share it directly with Mossad. The objective of this operation is to gain close and in-depth intelligence on Iran’s security structures, nuclear facilities, and senior leadership, in preparation for potential Israeli strikes.
Following these meetings, some leaders of Afghan opposition groups reportedly offered cooperation to Iranian security officials and members of the IRGC in an attempt to gain trust and expand their influence within Iranian security institutions. These actions demonstrate how rapidly opposition groups can shift their stances to serve intelligence objectives, even siding with Israel for personal gain and power restoration.
Previously, representatives of certain U.S. and Western intelligence agencies also held secret talks with members of the Resistance Council in Turkey, seeking intelligence on Iran. In exchange for cooperation, certain benefits were reportedly offered. This not only shows that Western nations are also attempting to increase their influence in this domain, but also exposes the betrayal of groups like the Resistance Council and National Resistance Front toward Iran. Providing these groups with offices and facilities inside Iran has become a serious challenge to Iran’s national security.
Recently, under the pretext of addressing refugee issues, some leaders from Afghanistan’s opposition groups—particularly the Resistance Council—traveled to Iran, where they reportedly visited high-level officials and IRGC centers. They collected intelligence to the extent required during these visits. Moreover, intelligence collaboration with Mossad has now become more active and structured, and it is not far-fetched to believe that these groups may already be involved in identifying critical targets, conducting espionage, or engaging in other threatening activities inside Iran.
In connection with these developments, Iranian police have recently arrested a media activist affiliated with the National Resistance Front over alleged collaboration with Mossad. Files related to drone and bomb-making were found on the individual’s mobile phone, which were reportedly being used in the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
In a nutshell, Israel and Western intelligence agencies’ ties with exiled Afghan opposition groups represent a new wave of intelligence warfare against Iran. These efforts aim to exploit groups such as the National Resistance Front and Resistance Council to provoke and intensify unrest within Iran. This not only poses a threat to Iran and regional security but could also become a global security issue. given the use of such proxy groups, Iran must re-evaluate all relations and cooperation with these opposition groups and take timely measures to neutralize potential threats.
