According to Al Jazeera, Russian forces launched widespread missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and nearby areas, further intensifying the security situation across several parts of the country.
The report said the strikes hit the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions, as well as parts of Kyiv. The reported targets included military-industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, and installations associated with airfields.
Ukrainian officials said the attacks damaged several residential buildings, sparked fires, and reportedly caused civilian casualties. Rescue teams are continuing search-and-rescue operations to locate and evacuate people trapped beneath collapsed structures.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed the attacks were directed exclusively at military and industrial targets and also targeted Ukraine’s air defense systems.
Al Jazeera added that the strikes come amid an escalating long-range conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides accusing each other of targeting energy infrastructure and military facilities.
