U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States should take full control of Greenland rather than leasing the territory.
He noted that the Arctic region currently lacks adequate defensive capabilities and warned that, without decisive action from Washington, Russia or China could expand their influence there.
Trump described U.S. control of Greenland as strategically vital for both Washington and NATO.
Earlier, he suggested that if Greenlanders chose to align with the United States, each resident could receive between $10,000 and $100,000.
