Reuters has reported that the US State Department has approved a proposed sale of 500 PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine, valued at $2.1 billion.

According to Reuters, the cost of the missiles will be covered through financial support from Canada, Germany and Norway, as well as funds from a European Union loan.

The main contractor for the deal is Lockheed Martin, which had previously announced plans to increase its annual production capacity for the missiles to 2,000 units.
