Local authorities in Nimruz province have announced that the use of Iranian Tomans in daily transactions has dropped to nearly zero, following a strict ban on foreign currencies.
Officials noted that until about a year and a half ago, both big and small businesses in Nimruz commonly used Iranian Tomans for their transactions. Back then, many people were not familiar with the Afghani currency.
Some residents of Nimruz said they experienced losses when using Iranian Tomans for everyday deals.
Nimruz, located on the border with Iran, has seen its markets dominated by Iranian Tomans for the past twenty years. However, in the last three years, a strict ban on foreign currencies has stopped their use, not only in Nimruz but also in other provinces.
