According to reports from Pakistani media, Maulana Qazi Zohur Ahmad, a prominent leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party and a religious scholar, was shot dead last night by unidentified gunmen in the Ahmadkhel area of Peshawar’s Badaber region while on his way home from a mosque.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, condemned the killing of Qazi Zohur Ahmad, stating that the government had failed to ensure security, which he warned poses a serious threat to peace and security in Pakistan.
The recent wave of attacks on religious scholars in Pakistan has raised widespread concerns, with the prevailing belief that scholars, particularly those affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, are being targeted by the Pakistani government.
