The National Environmental Protection Authority has announced that its Director General, Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, met with Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
According to the authority’s statement, the meeting focused on the challenges related to securing international aid. The two sides also discussed enhancing cooperation between national and international institutions in alignment with the priorities outlined in Afghanistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), as well as the submission of its second version to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
During the meeting, Indrika Ratwatte expressed commitment to facilitating meetings—coordinated with regional countries and donor organizations—to secure international and regional support for Afghanistan’s environmental protection initiatives, particularly through coordination with the National Environmental Protection Authority.
Mawlawi Khalis, for his part, highlighted the authority’s engagement in international forums, with specific reference to Afghanistan’s participation in the upcoming COP30 global climate summit, scheduled to take place in Brazil.
