The President of the Syrian Transitional Government, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, has issued two decrees for the establishment of two independent authorities to address justice and the issue of missing persons in the country.

According to a statement from the Syrian presidency, the justice authority will be responsible for investigating violations committed under the former regime, holding perpetrators accountable, and advancing national reconciliation.

The statement added that the missing persons authority will be tasked with locating the forcibly disappeared, collecting documentation, establishing a database, and providing legal support to affected families.

Both authorities have been instructed to form their operational teams and organize their internal systems within 30 days.

It is worth noting that during the internal conflicts under the imposed regimes of Bashar al-Assad and his father, tens of thousands of ordinary Syrians, religious scholars, and other influential figures were tortured and killed in military prisons.
