Spokesperson for The Ministry of Public Works, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, has announced that 87 percent of the construction work on the fourth section of the Khaf–Herat railway line has been completed.
According to Haqshenas, the project comprises four sections, two of which lie within Iran. The third section extends to Rozanak Station in Herat province, where construction has been completed and the railway is currently in use.
He stated that the first phase of the fourth section is being implemented under a contract between the Ministry of Public Works and a Kazakh company. So far, 96 percent of the infrastructure work, such as excavation and backfilling, has been completed, along with 85 percent of the rail installation.
Once the Khaf–Herat railway project is fully completed, it will connect Afghanistan to neighboring countries, the region, and international markets via rail. In addition to reducing the cost and time of transporting commercial goods, the project is expected to shorten regional distances and provide Afghan products with access to global markets.
