International media report that Canada’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Safety have taken the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham movement off the country’s list of groups that support terrorism.

Canadian officials stated that the decision is consistent with similar measures adopted by key allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

Foreign Minister Anita Anand praised the recent developments in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, affirming Canada’s support for the Syrian people as they work toward a peaceful and stable future.

Syria’s current government, headed by Ahmad al-Shar’a, is embarking on a new phase of enhanced regional and international engagement.
